Caprese Stuffed Chicken Breast (Printable version)

Juicy chicken stuffed with mozzarella, tomato, basil, and baked, finished with balsamic glaze for an Italian meal.

# Ingredients list:

→ Chicken

01 - 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
02 - 1 tablespoon olive oil
03 - 1 teaspoon salt
04 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
05 - 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs

→ Filling

06 - 4 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
07 - 2 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced
08 - 12 large fresh basil leaves

→ Finishing

09 - 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
10 - Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

# Steps:

01 - Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease with olive oil.
02 - Pat the chicken breasts dry. Using a sharp knife, cut a deep pocket in the side of each breast, being careful not to slice completely through.
03 - Season the chicken breasts inside and outside with salt, black pepper, and dried Italian herbs.
04 - Stuff each breast with 1–2 slices of mozzarella, 2–3 slices of tomato, and 3 basil leaves. Secure the opening with toothpicks if needed.
05 - Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the stuffed chicken breasts for 2–3 minutes per side until golden.
06 - Transfer the skillet to the oven, or move the chicken breasts to the prepared baking dish. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F).
07 - Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The filling stays juicy so every bite feels like a burst of summer.
  • No one realizes how easy it is, yet it looks and tastes special enough for company.
02 -
  • Overstuffing the chicken makes it hard to seal, and the filling leaks—less is more.
  • Searing before baking gives the best flavor; skipping this step leaves the dish flat.
03 -
  • Letting the chicken rest after baking prevents dry results and messy fillings.
  • Homemade balsamic glaze with a touch of honey elevates the flavor and leaves guests guessing your secret.
